Experience an abundance of cosplay and participate in one-of-a-kind events, exclusive sneak peeks, and talks. Don’t miss out on the vast and varied Exhibit Hall, showcasing merchandise and exhibitions from all fan bases.
Every year, Comic-Con releases an official publication to honor the event. The 2024 edition will showcase special anniversary celebrations. This square-bound trade paperback is created as a keepsake and designed to be a collectible, featuring cover art specifically commissioned for this publication. Additionally, the Souvenir Book includes a “Yearbook” section, with biographies and pictures of all the special guests at Comic-Con 2024, a retrospective of 2023’s awards, and a special section to remember those who have passed away.
Since its inception, the creators of the show had the vision to not only incorporate their beloved comic books but also to showcase other forms of popular art that they deemed worthy of recognition, such as films and science fiction/fantasy literature. The show underwent a name change in 1972, from San Diego’s West Coast Comic Convention to its current name, San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), which was officially adopted in the fourth annual event in 1973. In 1995, the non-profit event rebranded itself as Comic-Con International: San Diego (CCI). During the 1970s, the show was primarily hosted at the El Cortez Hotel in downtown San Diego, which holds a special place in the hearts of attendees.
However, in 1979, the show relocated to the Convention and Performing Arts Center (CPAC) until 1991, when it found its permanent home at the newly opened San Diego Convention Center. With a recent attendance of over 130,000 and limited space in the convention center, Comic-Con has expanded to include other venues such as local hotels and outdoor parks. In addition to the convention center, various events, including programming, games, anime, the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, and the Eisner Awards, now take place in these satellite locations, creating a campus-like atmosphere for the convention in downtown San Diego.
