Veuve Cliquot Thursdays

It started at check in with a great, responsive front desk & valet team. Offered a free alcoholic beverage. Of all the hotels we stayed at during our honeymoon, this was the only one who did something special (and left us an entire bottle of champagne!). The room we stayed in was spacious and on the top floor. Rooftop is beautiful and gives great views of the city (great place to get some work done during the day).
The two cons people mention is the noise & the parking cost. The location is essentially the cause of both of these, so don’t go into it with false expectations. You’re staying at one of the most expensive and popular parts of San Diego, right across from many popular bars (check out Coin-Op). Things were loud, particularly on the weekends, but the hotel gives you a white noise machine and ear plugs. Bars get quiet around 10-11 on weekdays and 12-1 on weekends, but we’re night owls and weren’t bothered much. The hotel is a sexy (shower had a glass viewing wall into the bedroom), modern place to spend a few nights around a popular nightlife district — not a family-centered, quiet part of town.
They also charge a $30 extra fee for a selection of random choice benefits which aren’t all that appealing, and they will not refund you or accommodate you if you can’t use any of them (and no tote bag in the room).
It really just seemed like they don’t care which is too bad considering we wanted a fun night in a nice place for an evening and it just turned into an overpriced headache
I didn't stay in the hotel so I can't comment on that.
Location, Location, Location this little hotel is right in the heart of the gaslight district with all the fun bars and restaurants you hear so much about. The room is a bit small but nicely designed and updated. One little suggestion to the hotel; put some nice designed hooks or shelves in the bathroom so it’s useful, Clean design is not enough.🤫
To save $$ we park our car few blocks away, their valet service is toooo expensive.
The rooftop is awesome when it’s open, but that’s only when the restaurant is open. This alone is strange since the roof features a pool and several seating areas that should be available even while the restaurant is closed.
Also strange is how the rooftop restaurant closes at 9pm every night (even on weekends). Nobody at the property was able to explain why it closes so early. The website states the limited service is due to “local mandate and government restrictions”, yet no such mandate or restrictions existed in January 2022.
I definitely recommend checking out this Andaz property, just don’t be surprised by the limited availability of the rooftop area.
We were walk-in. 5 star hotel.
Check in lasted almost 30 min.
Indifferent personal.
No vanity kit at the room.
Thanks at least for the towels.

Nice location
The hotel has been there for a long time but like with any other spot that wants survive and evolve, this hotel has rebranded.
This time piggy backing off of the STK franchise, it has added a "Rooftop" branch of their famous restaurant. It's not what you might imagine or what they promote.
This place is very much like a cafeteria, where you pay upfront, find your own table and wait for someone to bring you your food. Actually Carl's Jr is exactly like this place when it comes to ordering and seating.
The difference is, you are 20 floors up, there are people in bathing suits everywhere, cocktail specialists/not bartenders and the food is crafted, not frozen. Do I want to give 5 stars.........yes I do. Maybe when I don't walk around aimlessly for the first 5 minutes, I will!!!!!
Problem with the latter is that it's the only real common area space at which to hang and they book it for events. I actually booked this hotel for the roof and pool area to relax at the end of a long trip. It was a Sunday and I was unable to go. So the space is fun for the attendees if you're having an event, but if you're paying for the hotel in order to have that space, then you may be out of luck.
The response from the hotel was that "it is a bummer". So know that you don't necessarily get access to the best part of the hotel when staying here and that they really don't care. For a hotel which promotes that area so much for its guests, kinda poor form and worse response.
Rank low as it's misguided to advertise something to a guest they may not get and then the poor customer service around the issue. They email some customers letting them know, but not all depending on how you book, apparently. I was never informed according to the staff.
Cleanliness was an issue as well. There was hair all over the bathroom which is a bit gross at any time, but particularly during the pandemic.
Update. And despite the statement the response regarding roof top partial opening for guests, a hotel employee was on the roof blocking the entry and plainly stating it was closed for a private event.
SOME of the Staff could have been better.
Valet service was overpriced slow. Had issues with communication with the Front Desk at times. However, there was a complication with check out due to circumstances beyond anybody’s control and Staff was very helpful during that time, which is very much appreciated.
Overall, all of the employees that we encountered were nice and professional and the rooms were super clean.
My family from OC came to visit and they often stay in downtown. They said the service and rooms are way better here than Hilton!
We went to the rooftop for breakfast. Nice outdoor patio on one side and then a small 3foot pool and cabanas on the other end. The view was also nice.
For a second, we forgot we were in downtown surrounded by homeless population. Once you enter the lobby and go to the pool, the decor is modern chic. You get to vacation in style.
