THOMAS FAMILY DAY
On Saturday, August 17th, the San Diego Model Museum will host a special event featuring Thomas and his friends from the Isle of Sodor. From 10 AM to 4 PM, visitors can join the fun with various activities centered around Thomas the Tank Engine. These include a scavenger hunt around the museum, with Thomas trains running on the layouts, as well as arts and crafts inspired by Thomas. There will also be an N-scale display of the Isle of Sodor and interactive singing and dancing sets at 11 AM and 1 PM. Read More…
SWING FOR THE STARS – CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT
As we commemorate 60 years of “Preserving, Inspiring, Educating, and Celebrating” the marvels of air and space, we extend an invitation for you to participate in a longstanding tradition at SDASM – our 40th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. In 2022, the tournament was given a new name to honor our valued friend and Board Member, Dick Lareau. Dick had been the Chief Pilot of our golf tournament for several years.The proceeds from this year’s event will go towards our Museum’s improvement plan for the 4D Theater, which offers visitors an unparalleled add-on experience in Balboa Park. CROOME BROTHERS TRIO AT FAIRMOUNT GRAND DEL MAR
This Friday, August 16th, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM The Fairmont Grand Del Mar will feature the heart of “Daring Greatly”, the Croome Brothers. Created by the founding members Patrick Croome, Liam Croome, and Brayden Tario, this collaborative project showcases a one-of-a-kind performance featuring vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar, piano/keyboard, and precisely rhythmic Cajon percussion. Utilizing their common musical background, they skillfully combine acoustic elements to produce a charming and nostalgic sound that also brings a unique and refreshing listening experience. Read More
DEL MAR RACING SEASON
The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club 2024 summer racing season will run from Saturday, July 20th through Sunday, September 8th. This Saturday, August 10th, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds is the Del Mar Tacos & Tequila Festival. Guests can indulge in a variety of specialty tequilas, margaritas, and cervezas that perfectly complement the delicious tacos from some of the top taco vendors in the city. Representatives from different brands will be present to provide samples and address any inquiries about their tequilas. More

AMERICA’S FINEST CITY HALF MARATHON & 5K
On Sunday, August 18th, In Motion Events presents a Half Marathon starting at 6:15 AM and a 5K starting at 6:10 AM. This is San Diego’s most beautiful half marathon, where runners will start at the Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma and continue along San Diego Bay, Harbor Island, and Embarcadero, passing by the Star of India, before finishing in Balboa Park. Participants who are 21 years old or above and have registered for the event will receive a complimentary Ballast Point beer (limited to one per person while supplies last) in the beer garden between 6:45 AM and 10:30 AM.
