San Diego Beach Fire Pits

Enjoying San Diego beach fire pits is a time-honored tradition residents and visitors have enjoyed for years. Most beaches provide fire pits free, on a first-come-first-served basis, you bring the wood. Call your friends and family, sing a song around the fire and make s’mores. San Diego beach fire pits are a tradition that even the God of fire would be proud of.  Not all San Diego beaches allow bonfires but here are a few to get you started.

Oceanside’s Harbor Beach. is located by the Oceanside Harbor and Cape Cod-style Village on the south end, and the Camp Pendleton Marine Base to the North. This long, sandy beach is a perfect place to getaway.  You’ll find about two miles of sidewalk to stroll, which will take you around the entire Harbor, where you’ll find plenty of places to eat and shop for souvenirs. There is lifeguard coverage at Harbor Beach.  Shaded picnic areas include tables, barbecue grills, a playground, and restrooms are available throughout the area.

Spacious and friendly beach atmosphere. Good boat landing dock and expansive marina. Parking is expensive at $15 for a few hrs up to $50 for a day. Great for a family outing with kids. Bring food and drink along with some chairs and an umbrella then relax for a day. Bathrooms are close to the beach and outside sand rinse showers available.

Nice spot to grill out and beautiful sights to see .. the whole walk down by the beach is amazing.. rent a boat and ride with the family that's not too expensive , last time I went it was under 100 bucks but with gas and all I don't know any more .. or go dolphin watching Really its wheal watching but we seen more dolphins then any thing ..still over all great for the price and there's even have a person making drinks ... I love my home town beach it's one of a kind

Parking is great right on beach, if u can find it get there by 10am. All paid parking. there is also metered hourly parking but it only accepts change and you'll need a decent amount. There's also a big parking lot further from the beach across from harbor restaurants. The Beach and harbor very clean and well kept. Lots of trash cans so please use them!! Lots of lifeguards and police around. Need more bathrooms and showers at all Oceanside beachs. Enjoy! Wear lots of sunscreen and stay hydrated. Also this beach doesn't allow alcohol or smoking of any kind. 🙄

This was our go-to beach to relax. It's more laid back than many of the other beaches in SoCal, but just as enjoyable. There are several good restaurants close by (in the Joe's Crab Shack area). You can park for free parking across the street from Joe's Crab Shack if you don't want to pay for parking nearby.

Love the beach. Love camping at the beach. When the state parks are full, well we have the Harbor in Oceanside. It only gets 4 stars because at night rude people like to ride through loudly blaring their music. Otherwise it is well patrolled during the day!

I adore going to the beach! As a result, when I learned about this well-known beach, I invited all of my friends to join me. They are all responsible enough to look after their clients, as I observed, and there are lifeguards on every corner. So don't be concerned; all you have to do now is make fun of them!

Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. Moonlight State Beach is a state park that is operated by the city of Encinitas. Family-friendly with lifeguards and great swimming spots, it’s a fun and welcoming place to spend the day. There is a pay parking lot, but if you arrive early enough, you can find free street parking. The fire pits are available until the beach closes at 10 PM.

This was our first visit visit to Moonlight Beach and my little family loved it. It was a convenient walk from our hotel, with lovely yards and a beautiful rock garden lining the street. The beach was clean and the supporting buildings were well maintained. It was great to see families enjoying the great weather on Saturday. We went back three times during our stay in Encinitas including a sunrise excursion. I would absolutely visit again. What a lovely example of California's state beaches.

Had such a great time at this beach today! It was recommended to us for our out of state visit. They are currently prepping the sand for spring break and summer so some parts are blocked off. There’s a new concession stand w a very nice man. Great coffee and snow cones! Bathrooms are SO clean and new. The park was also v new too. Today there were quite a lot of rocks w the high tide but still fun. And loved the cool black sand! We also saw a group of dolphins playing and surfing.

If you want to explore socal, without touristy spots, this beach can be one of them. This is gorgeous, laid back, cool without much people. It’s narrow but the view could be spectacular. The ocean is great. You can walk long way along the pacific. It’s a calm residential area, so can imagine people enjoying moonlit night by the pacific. The view could be stellar. The beach is small, having amenities like washrooms, etc. there’s picnic benches, playground for kids. It’s perfect.

This is my favorite beach in San Diego. There are restrooms, a snack bar, showers, a playground, volleyball courts, and handicap access almost all the way down to the beach. There is also a main lifeguard tower and one ancillary within 400 yards of each other. There is a huge parking lot and street parking all around, as well. Fall during a week day is the best time to go because everyone is back at school/work, the air is crisp, and the sky is bright.

Great spot for an evening sunset picnic fire 🙂

Tables are spaced well. If there’s wind be aware of the fire and smoke blowing toward the table you set up at. The pits on concrete are best for this and tables next to them to set up at.

Rats 🐀 show up at dusk in the Palm circle with stones near trash cans so don’t put anything on that island or setup near it.

Moonlight Beach is beautiful. However, we went yesterday and it was so packed it reminded me of The Zuma Beach of the 1970s. They have tables and they have a nice clean bathroom. I think it's a good place to take kids.... If you want peace and quiet, not so much, at least in the summer.

Ideal locale for a day at the beach. Good amount of parking (not enough), but there are plenty of side streets where you can practice your parallel parking!

Good amenities, including showers, changing rooms rentals and food. Playground area too!

The beach has great sand and extends for miles in both directions. Catching sand crabs was a favorite of my kids.

Only drawback is there are steep hills all around to get to the beach. There are a couple of dropoff locations.

Wonderful beach. Lots of space across the shoreline. There's showers, restrooms, volleyball, a playground for the kids and more. The main lifeguard station overlooks the beach as a comforting presence with smaller lifeguard towers throughout. Surfers have a designated area so that they don't interfere with swimmers. In addition, I found this beach to be well-suited for younger kids as the waves were shallow and weren't large unless you intentionally swam farther out into the water (I visited from 1 PM - 4 PM with cloudy conditions; make sure to check the weather forecast beforehand!)

Great for surfing. There are bathrooms and a free parking lot (and lots of free street parking up the hill if the lot is full). There aren't many swimmers there, mostly surfers, so it's got some great open space for both white wash waves for beginners near the shore and green water out a bit. The currents can be strong, so keep an eye on where you are and remember to swim parallel to the shore(not towards it) if you get stuck in a rip tide.

Good things: It can get very crowded during the day, but very peaceful at evenings and you can enjoy the fireworks all by yourself every evening at 9pm.
Negatives: The restrooms are among the grossest I've seen (and I've travelled a lot) and parking can be difficult if you're not carrying any trailer or boat. The indications where regular vehicles can park are very poorly written and people get lots of tickes.

Had to give this place 4 stars because of the lack of parking on the weekends. Although, it is a very great place to land your jetski/boat. They have a decent size boat ramp, and plenty of bathrooms/garbage cans which you will need to have a great time. They do maintain fairly well, and the park rangers are very nice. No alcohol is allowed, and on the weekends police do walk around and check, so please be careful.

Beautiful views of the Pacific, the bay, and everything in between and beyond. The Coastal trail is relatively easy, but steep at times.
The beach is wide, has wonderful soft sand. You are almost guaranteed to see birds, egrets, pelicans, and sea lions. Gentle waves invite you to enjoy the Pacific's beauty.
Beach is well kept up, clean. Can be busiest on weekends, it is a large beach, but you can usually find space to relax.
Would recommend this to anyone visiting San Diego. Easy to get to from downtown, using the spectacular Coronado Bridge.

We started off and they shut the gates and lock them at 8 pm. I have a yoga certification class that I am attending and will not even be out until 8. I am now forced to park in the neighborhood and hike in! Saying a prayer no one will steal the vehicle. They don't open the gate until 7 a.m. so you are trapped inside the parking lot. And let me be clear it is a parking lot and you are definitely on top of your neighbor! Machine guns and helicopters are firing and hovering in the background so not finding it hugely peaceful. Maybe my attitude will change when I move to the beach front and get a little more space to breathe but it still doesn't take away from the back that you were a shut-in from 8 pm to 7 am Fall.... come winter time they will start to shut the gate at 7 p.m.! It is absolutely ridiculous but definitely not my bad for realizing the hours changed. Last time it was 9 p.m. and that was a bit much but I won't be back. Plenty of other places to camp that have beach camping and less poo floating around in the water

This is an amazingly beautiful beach. The ocean could be watched for hours. It was very clean. The sand glitters like it has extra fine craft glitter in it. Perhaps that is it's name sake. It's impossible to catch it with a camera. But I think it's half fairy dust from Peter Pan.
It's $10 per car. There is currently no service for food, but bathrooms were open. There is seating still there. There is water available for rinsing.
Sand shells are tiny. Recent sign posted some sighting of sting rays noticed, and recommended shuffling your feet while in the water. Breeze was lovely, not to strong, but enough to keep you cool.
We loved it! Would love some of that fairy dust on a jar!

The park is nice. The hosts are nice. But there is only one area with bathrooms at one end of the park. The beach access is nice, close and super easy. There's a path under the road to lead to so many other paths for biking, walking or running. On the other side of the road from the park is the bay. There is another shower and bathroom area, picnic seating, bay swimming and boating.
The waves here are fine but not conducive to surfing. Much calmer than up north.

Popped into San Diego to visit family and they took me to one of their favorite spots. Accessing the beach was so easy and quick. Parking was 15 bucks and the beach was only a few feet away from where we unloaded our beach gear. The beach was super clean and the views were incredible! Set up near the lifeguard Tower and the access to bathrooms was close and convenient. There was a mobile coffee truck on the premises and that was an added treat! The coffee was incredibly delicious and the owners of the truck were super positive and kind. Needless to say, we had a blast at the beach and this might be one of my new favorite spots.

Early in the season and a more than average windy day. Warm and delicious salt air and a colorful flock of kite surfers (not sure that is the correct name) made for a relaxing afternoon of beach walking and laying in the sand with the family. $8.00 for an all day pass is very reasonable. The lifeguards and staff are great you can do whatever you want as long as you don't get out of hand. It's a safe place to take your family and friends.

Nice coastal breeze from beach. One large paved lot, marked into decent sites, but you can't beat proximity to the beach. We live in San Diego County...we'll definitely be back again. Great for a weekend getaway. But you need to book it far ahead. Very popular spot.
