7 Best Pizza Places in San Diego

San Diego is well known for its Mexican food and Micro Brews. Well, guess what? we’ve also got some outstanding Pizza joints. There are so many, so we’ll just start with our 7 Best Pizza Places in San Diego. So grab a slice of life, fold and insert into your tummy, while washing down with a nice brew.

Pizza Port Breweries

Pizza Port has long been one of our favorites for many reasons. First, there’s the pizza. We love us some “Meet Extreme Meat” pizza. This thin-crusted pizza should be ordered with their signature wholegrain beer crust. Packed with Canadian bacon, pepperoni, meatballs, salami, and sausage this pizza absolutely rocks! Their microbrews are well known here in San Diego and are for sale retail in many local liquor stores and grocery marts. A couple of brews we enjoy. Chronic ale, a delicious amber ale, and Fife Dog IPA. Bottoms up!

Honestly the best time to come here is when its not busy because when it is, there are kids all over the place. The... upper floor is often empty and a great place to chill. The lunch special is the best deal here, only six dollars for 2 slices of pizza and a soda cup before 3. pinballs a bit overpriced, a few more than 2 machines would be nice.read more

Easily one of my favorite pizza and pint spots in San Diego. The food here is absolutely delicious and the beer list is... second-to-none. There is plentiful seating with two levels of indoor seating, a permanent outdoor patio, and a temporary (and hopefully soon-to-be permanent?) covered outdoor seating area in the parking lot. If you don't mind salty, I definitely recommend the "Carlsbad" pizza. They also have a nice gluten-free crust for those that need it!read more

Pizzeria Luigi

Luigi Agostini, the owner of Pizzeria Luigi, lived in Varese, Italy just north of Milano.  He stayed in Italy until the age of 23. In search of adventure, Luigi traveled from San Francisco to Hawaii and Los Angeles. He eventually settled in San Diego before opening his very first pizzeria in Poway, California in 2002.

At the time, Luigi was a resident of Golden Hill, commuting daily to his suburban pizzeria. After a  visit from Guy Fieri and Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins & Dives in the Fall of 2008, Pizzeria Luigi’s business skyrocketed & pizza enthusiasts traveled from near and far for a slice of his signature pizzas. Trust us and definitely try the Mona Lisa pie, Pepperoni, Sausage, Green Peppers, Mushroom, Red Onion, Black Olive *As seen on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

A hidden gem!!! This pizza is absolutely delicious!!!!! It's served very hot and the ingredients don't taste processed.... The slices are big and the crust tastes amazing! You can buy individual slices or your own personal pizza. If you want your own personal pizza, they only offer large, but it is more like an extra large. You definitely get your money's worth. The staff are very friendly, professional and the service is impeccable!!! You can dine indoor or outdoor. You must try this hidden gem. You won't be disappointed!read more

So, I was really excited to come try this place and it looks like such a great area! When we went in and looked around,... inside the glass casing where you see the pieces by the slice, you could definitely see flies in there. There were also these rolls that we ordered and there were a bunch piled up and sitting uncovered on the top of the casing. There were flies on them as well. I thought maybe those were just for people to see and that there were obviously fresh stuff in the back.I was so happy we ordered a full pizza that they had to cook fresh because I saw them grab slices where the flies were and just put them in the oven to warm up. They also grabbed the rolls that had flies on them and put them in the oven to warm up as well. We…could not eat them. It was so unappetizing. The pizza was pretty good but after everything, I’m not sure we could comfortably enjoy everything :/read more

I love Luigi's pizza. But I really wish the owner had more pride of ownership in his restaurants. I have been to all... of his locations in town. He lacks a lot of the details. Today, I am at the "ORIGINAL" Golden Hill location. The bathrooms here are a mess. Are long due for a remodel. One of the bathrooms had a roll of toilet paper on top of the paper towel dispenser. Totally unacceptable. They just opened too so I know it was an employee who did it. Found a fruit fly come out of the soda machine which tells me it needs to be cleaned and their soda machine is lacking co2. The owner is definitely not engaged in his restaurants so if he doesn't care. Why should the employees? That is the only thing that frustrates me about Luigi's. I know they are better than that. They have a great product but lack the details in execution of cleanliness and maintenance.read more

They only sell 18" pizzas (from what I could tell) that come with 8 giant slices. The Service was pretty good overall... and our pizzas were ready within 20 minutes. My only issues were that the pizzas were a bit too greasy for me personally and it seemed to make the pizza a bit soggy. Overall still a good pizzaread more

Best. Pizza. In. San. Diego. If you're a fan of New York style big slices, this is your place. Even if you're a Bronx... Pizza fan. My lady is from NYC and this holds up to her standards as well. Nice creations but classics like a slice of cheese or spinach ricotta (no sauce) are wonderful too. Nice beer on tap selection. Great wings as well. Sriracha IPA are the best. Delicious classic NY style thin-crust pie. Perfect crust:cheese:sauce ratio. Whole pie prices are great ($17 cheese,... $19 margherita). One pie ends up being good for 4-5 meals (for an average person). Called ahead at 11:38 AM and the pie was ready when I got there at 11:55 (18 min). There are a few diagonal (back-up-only) street parking spots in front. Ended up becoming a neighborhood favorite for us.read more

So disappointed. Expected top notch and got sub par. Pizza was so gross. I took one bite and had to spit it out. I even... told the waitress and she basically ignored me. We came back here to try the pizza this time, we got the special and they were able customize one side and not include... some of the toppings my wife doesn’t like. The pizza was great and the size was perfect for two.On the other hand, they have outdoor sitting and a sign that says see the hostess for a table. But we couldn’t find the hostess outside of the restaurant and other clients were as confused as us. The waiters were passing by in front of us, but completely ignored everyone waiting in front of the restaurant instead of directing us to the hostess. After asking inside we walked a bit further to what seemed to us a different restaurant and found her.——-This was one of our favorite restaurants in the area good price and value. The portions were quite large and we liked the lasagna, I believe they make them in house. There is a small market you pass through to go into the restaurant that sells imported goodies.read more

Lefty’s Chicago Pizzeria

The idea for Lefty’s came from the over-abundance of mom and pop shops where the owners grew up in Chicago. The ease of ordering a deep dish pie or grabbing a dog, a bag of fries, a beef sandwich, and ALL of the happy feelings that came along with comfort foods. Fortunately, they soon tired of missing those mouth-watering and comforting flavors of Chicago.  They began spending hours in their little California kitchens, creating recipes that they force-fed their friends, trying to re-create those pies haunting their taste buds.

They serve local microbrews from Ballast Point, Lagunitas, Bear Republic, Stone Brewing Co, Great Divide Brewing Co., Ten Barrel Brewing, AleSmith Brewing Co., and Thunderhawk Alements.

Hi there,I went to pick up my pizza and was told 4 minutes until it was ready. Easy no big deal. So I went to sit at... the bar at the closest stool to the cashier and waited patiently. 30 minutes go by and during those 30 minutes the employee working the front walks by me several times without saying anything. If she forgot about me, she didn't even offer me a beer as if I was a new customer. So finally after seeing another customer walk in and get their pizza quickly I ask about mine. At that point I get a quick "Sorry" and now have my pizza. You need to either find a new front desk employee or work it yourself to ensure that your customers aren't being forgotten for 30 minutes. I'm a pretty chill dude but this was beyond frustrating.read more
