Support Our Local Farmers while you get fresh air, fresh fare, and fun! You’ll find it all at the San Diego farmers markets. Every city in San Diego boasts its own version of a farmer’s market. Some are intimate places where locals sell you produce so fresh that there is still a little soil on it. Others feature vendors with homemade goods to sell. Still others have a street fair vibe, with music and entertainment. Here are a few farmer’s markets to explore:
Oceanside Sunset Market. Featuring up to 200 merchants and spanning four city blocks, MainStreet Oceanside’s Sunset Market is San Diego County’s top weekly food and music street fair. Every Thursday from 5-9 p.m., thousands of residents and visitors alike gather here to enjoy hot food from around the world, gourmet goodies and desserts, eclectic shopping, and live entertainment. Located on Pier View Way west of Coast Highway in Downtown Oceanside since 2007, this free, family-friendly event also features Dorothy’s KidZone with children’s activities. Read more
Little Italy Mercato. Join us at the Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, year-round, rain or shine. The Saturday market is San Diego County’s largest, filling six city blocks on West Date Street from west of Kettner Blvd to Front Street. Shop for farm-fresh produce, pastured eggs, poultry, meat, nuts, and honey from California farmers; fish, olive oil, bread, sauces, and much more from local food makers. Pacific Beach Farmers Market. The Pacific Beach Tuesday Farmers’ Market is an essential outdoor grocery store offering the unique opportunity for customers to meet the farmers and makers of the freshest fare from the small local businesses that they love! Find fresh produce, meats, cheeses, bread, flowers, dips and spreads along with gourmet dining options and handcrafted artisan works.

Hillcrest Farmers Market. The oldest of the San Diego Farmers Markets is the Hillcrest Farmers Market, Fresh & Fabulous, just like Hillcrest! Open every Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM Including Christmas & New Year’s Weekend! Located on Normal Street between University Ave. and Lincoln Street.
The Hillcrest Farmers Market consists of over 175 vendors offering a wide variety of locally grown in-season fruit, produce, gifts, arts and crafts, and flowers. Many of the local farmers participating in the market grow their produce organically or with no pesticides. The market also hosts a large variety of prepared food and hot food items with an emphasis on international cuisine. La Jolla Open Aire Market.
The La Jolla Open Aire Market is different than other farmers markets in that all proceeds benefit La Jolla Elementary (LJES), a public school. The proceeds from the market fund various initiatives enjoyed by all children at LJES, including school improvements and programs such as art, music, library, technology, and additional classroom teachers to lower class sizes.
The market was started by former La Jolla Elementary School mom and La Jolla community supporter, Sherry Ahern. In 1996, Sherry had two children enrolled at LJES and was on the Friends of La Jolla Elementary, Inc. Board, the school’s non-profit education foundation. The original motivation for the market was to help fund a library and librarian. At the time, the school’s “library” consisted only of a small collection of books in the back of the auditorium. State Street Farmers Market. We are open every Wednesday starting at 2:30 pm. The State Street Farmers’ Market is a fresh-air grocery store focusing on fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, nuts, and honey. And yes, even fresh flowers and plants. There are plenty of artisan food vendors to round out your shopping experience, including bread, granola, yogurt, bone broth, kombucha, fudge, cookies, etc.

Ocean Beach Farmers Market. This year the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association celebrates the 30th Birthday of the Ocean Beach Farmers Market. Enjoy the sights, scents, and tastes that have endured for three decades, inviting the community and visitors alike to “meet me at the market” again and again.
This eclectic open-air market and relaxed feel have made the Ocean Beach Certified Farmers Market located in the heart of Ocean Beach the place to be on Wednesday evenings for decades.
The celebration on the 4900 block of Newport Avenue will include the unveiling of the canvas tote bag with the updated Farmers Market logo, along with an opportunity drawing to win Farmers Market favorites such as fresh flowers, plants, local produce, fresh-baked breads, desserts, komchucha, green juice, honey, hot food, and much more. Stop by the OBMA’s bright yellow information booth located in the middle of the market between 4 pm – 7 pm to receive your free opportunity drawing ticket and see if you’re a winner!
