The History and Culture of OC Surfing

Surfing is the sport that really put Huntington Beach on the map. It went from a sleepy little beachside hamlet at the beginning of the last century to the number one surfing destination for water-lovers from all over California. Huntington Beach is known as the birthplace of surfing in California. Today, Huntington Beach still reigns as Surf City USA.

The International Surf Museum pays tribute to the surfing culture through photos, displays, and historic surf memorabilia. In fact, the International Surf Museum was chosen as one of the 125 “Icons of Orange County” in honor of the OC’s 125th birthday in 2014!
