The Melanoma Angel Network Hosts Inaugural Community Gala at Dodger Stadium on March 16

Nonprofit Promises ‘Compassion, Community and Charity’ for Families Impacted by Skin Cancer

The Melanoma Angel Network, a 501(c) 3 charity organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by melanoma (but inclusive of all types of cancers), is hosting its inaugural community gala at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, March 16, 2019.

Taking place on Saturday, March 16, the gala starts at 5:30 p.m. Attire is fun business. Guests will enjoy a blue carpet (consistent with the décor colors of Dodger Stadium), sunset views, an open bar, a gourmet dinner, a silent auction, a live band and virtual reality exhibit as well as the ability to mingle with special guests. Tickets are $150 and are available for purchase at www.MelanomaAngelNetwork.org/gala.

Unlike any other charity organization, the Melanoma Angel Network is focused on supporting the lives of the friends, family, caregivers, loved ones, and the extended community and network of patients affected by cancer.

The organization was founded Tyler Halstead as brother and sister pair, Tyler and Tricia, know first-hand that the battle is with cancer is not only a patient battle. They believe that no one should struggle watching a loved one battling cancer alone. “We know from personal experience how important it is to have an extended community offering support from what we went through when our mother was battling melanoma,” said Tyler Halstead, founder of the Melanoma Angel Network.

The Melanoma Angel Network was founded on three principles: compassion, community and charity.

How the organization was founded

“I spent most of my childhood and teenage life trying to live normally, all while knowing my mom was dying of cancer,” said Halstead. “Rather than deny the inevitable, my family chose to rally together to battle her cancer collectively.”

While his mother was dying of cancer, Halstead said he didn’t want to be viewed as a victim or different. Tyler and Tricia recall spending hours with their mom discussing and electing mothers in their community who could carry on and play a motherly role in their lives, knowing that their own mother’s time was now severely limited. As a result this close-knit community of well-wishers intervened in daily life with a warm plate, a hug, and most importantly, an understanding ear.

“We understood each other, we trusted one another, and collectively we were strong in the face of cancer,” Halstead says. “For me, this group would come to be known as the ‘Angel network,’ and the goal of my charity is to reimagine and recreate this sense of community — on a global scale, so that everyone can feel as blessed and supported
as I was.”

The inaugural event at Dodger Stadium will launch the organization and celebrate the work done during the 20 years prior to becoming a non-profit. The address for Dodger Stadium is 1000 Vin Scully Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
