Cinema Orange | IN THE INTENSE NOW

Join us for a free screening of IN THE INTENSE NOW, a moving documentary that reflects on worldwide cultural revolutions of 1968 and the historical impact. Many of the protests in the film were spurred by student movements and draw a timely line to today’s society.

A film by João Moreira Salles
An Icarus Films Release

IN THE INTENSE NOW explores the revolutions of 1968 as they unfolded across four different countries and their political environments: France, Czechoslovakia, China, and Brazil. Narrated in first person by the director, the film reflects on that which is revealed by footage of the French students’ uprising in May of 1968; the images captured by amateurs during the invasion of Czechoslovakia in August of the same year, when forces led by the Soviet Union put an end to the Prague Spring; the scenes that a tourist—the director’s mother—filmed in China in 1966, the year of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution; and footage from Salles’ own childhood in Brazil, during the establishment and rule of a repressive military dictatorship.Presented by Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) and the The Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF), #CinemaOrange spotlights the cinematic works of independent filmmakers from around the world. Cinema Orange is in its 14th year and is presented at part of OCMA’s Free Fridays program, with support provided by Visionaries, The Segerstrom Foundation, City of Newport Beach Arts Commission, and the Alcon Foundation.

Seating is limited. Free tickets are handed out beginning at 5pm on the day of the screening. OCMA members may reserve seats in advance by 949.759.1122 x243. Unused tickets will be released 10 minutes prior to the start of the film.
