San Diego Natural History Museum

The San Diego Natural History Museum’s newest gallery, “All That Glitters: The Splendor and Science of Gems and Minerals,” amazes adults and children alike with stunning jewelry and glittery gemstones…some found right here in San Diego!

The exhibit is both awe-inspiring and educational.  Learn how crystals develop to form various shapes and sizes, where these minerals can be found, and why they are of such high value today. One rarity found only in San Benito County is California state gem, Benitoite, an exquisite blue stone discovered in 1907.  For glitz and glamour, head to the Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels displays to see jaw-dropping jewelry.  The Flor de Lis crystal, one of the world’s most impressive rubellites, and the Aurora Butterfly of Peace, a matching pair of colored diamonds forming a symmetrical butterfly, are also on public display.

Hop on an H& M Landing boat to experience marine life firsthand!  The museum has teamed up with the sportfishing company to take visitors on an enthralling adventure on the Pacific to go blue whale watching. Onboard with family and friends, meet some of the world’s largest animals! SDNHM.org (619) 232-3821.
