Model Railroad Museum

A visit to the San Diego Model Railroad Museum is a novel way to learn about California’s history. This nonprofit museum is one of the world’s largest indoor model railroad displays, as well as the only accredited railroad museum in the United States. Exhibits include display cases with unique toy trains, informational boards about their history, topographical maps and several operational train layouts. There is even an interactive toy train gallery where children themselves can operate coal trains on the model. Visit Tuesdays through Fridays for Mac Kid’s Corner where children listen to stories, play games and make their own crafts!
All of the museum’s train layouts are modeled upon actual railroads in California and pay tribute to the hard work and countless hours spent building our transportation system. The museum participates in Free Resident Tuesdays on the first Tuesday of each month and is open daily except Mondays. www.sdmrm.org. (619) 696-0199.
