Outdoor Art in San Diego

You don’t always have to go to a gallery or museum to see art; San Diego has several outdoor public art pieces. In North County, you’ll find the Cardiff Kook, a bronze statue of a surfer. Locals criticize the surfer’s poor form, making it a common target for pranks. The “Kook” has been dressed up as everything from Michael Jackson to a hula dancer to a “Jaws” victim. Find the statue along Highway 101 in Cardiff-by-the-Sea and see the locals’ latest prank! Mole Park, by the USS Midway Museum, attracts millions of people each year to see ‘Unconditional Surrender,’ a 25-foot statue based on the famous 1945 photo of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square. The public art display is on loan, so make sure to see it before it’s gone!
