Historical Presidio Park

The first European settlements in the western United States were in 1769 at what is now known as Presidio Park, the site where the San Diego Presidio and the San Diego Mission were founded.  This site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.  Visitors are awed by the sweeping views of the city, the San Diego River Valley and the Pacific Ocean.  The park is always a popular spot for family gatherings, picnicking and playing games, but it is also used for weddings and other special events because of its beautiful location.  The grounds also feature the Serra Museum, one of the most familiar landmarks in San Diego, which is run by the San Diego Historical Society.  The museum stands atop the hill and is recognized as the actual site where California began.  Be sure to include a visit to Presidio Park in your visit, and ask about the educational tours that are offered.
