Culture & History

The area of San Diego has been inhabited for more than 10,000 years by the Kumeyaay Indians. In 1602, Sebastián Vizcaíno arrived on the shores of San Diego and name the area after the Catholic Saint Didacus. The history of San Diego grew from there and now we have a number of iconic landmarks that are not to be missed by any visitor. From Balboa Park to the San Diego Mission to even more modern cultural landmarks such as the USS Midway and Star of India, the rich history of San Diego can be seen year-round.
