Castles In The Sand

On any of San Diego’s beaches, instantly connect with your inner child by digging your fingers into the sand and building a sandcastle.

The beach is blank canvas awaiting creativity. Although referred to as a “sandcastle,” what you build out of the sand is entirely up to you. Each evening, high tide wipes the canvas clean.

Imperial Beach, San Diego’s last beach town before the border, is home to the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition. The 30th annual event will span over three days this year, August 6 through August 8.

The carnival like atmosphere will feature several vendors, live musical performances, a 21- and- up only Sandcastle Dance and both amateur and professional sand building competitions.

Professional sand carvers will vie for the title of Master’s Champion and, alongside amateur teams, will compete in six categories for more than $20,000 in cash prizes. It is definitely not just for kids.
