Cabrillo National Monument
Thing To Do #77
In 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo made history as the first European to set foot on a “very good enclosed port,” known now as San Diego Bay. Today, as an honor to his discovery, a statue of Cabrillo stands in Point Loma overlooking the harbor. In addition to telling the story of 16th century exploration, the park is home to a wealth of cultural and natural resources.
Cabrillo National Monument is situated atop the Point Loma Peninsula, offering stunning views of San Diego and its harbor, Mexico to the South, and the Pacific Ocean (especially beautiful at sunset). For just $5 per vehicle, visitors to the park can see the statue of Cabrillo, learn about the two lighthouses on the peninsula, and explore the biologically diverse tide pools at the base of the cliffs.

Checked this out last weekend. Entry is only 5 bucks and there’s a lot to see. I took my kids down to the tide pools and then we took pictures up by the monument. You can see forever in each direction. BEAUTIFUL at sunset!!
