Or, By Liz Duffy Adams: at MOXIE Theatre
Price: $20-40, Buy Tickets Here or call the box office 858-598-7620
It’s true that Aphra Behn is considered the first female playwright and that before she was a playwright she was a poet and a spy. It’s also true that Nell Gwynne was the hottest actress in town when Aphra was writing…but whether or not Aphra hid Nell in her bedroom just before the two ‘got it on’ so she could entertain her other lover, King Charles II, is more than up for debate. MOXIE’s favorite playwright Liz Duffy Adams, who also penned the imaginative Dog Act, Wet and The Listener, mixes fact and fiction in her newest play ‘Or,‘ a witty and sexy Restoration romp which makes its San Diego debut at MOXIE in March.
Or, follows Aphra Behn as she tries to finish that play she hopes will make her career but interruptions from her lovers make it hard to concentrate. Behn’s front door is always swinging as King Charles II, Nell Gwynne and double-agent William Scott as well as a host of other characters pass through in a bevy of quick costume changes and lightning fast exits and entrances. It’s delicious. www.moxietheatre.com/or.
