Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert
The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert has over fifty “hands-on” exhibits in our main Gallery for children of all ages to learn from in the most interesting and funniest ways possible! As a “hands-on” museum we take the best of both worlds – exhibits and touch or manipulation – and combine them for a world of discovery!
The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert inspires and promotes intellectual curiosity and self expression through inventive and interactive exhibits and programs. It encourages children to learn about themselves and the world around them by exploring the natural environment and the community. The Museum serves children of all ages with particular emphasis on primary school age children of the Coachella Valley. The Museum also serves as a resource to its community through the development of special programs and collaborations with other organizations.
The current Museum facility, located just west of the intersection of Bob Hope on Gerald Ford Drive in Rancho Mirage, boasts 8,000 square feet of hands-on exhibits for the whole family to enjoy. Situated on 6.5 acres donated by Ambassador and Mrs. Annenberg, the campus also includes a multipurpose performance center, outdoor amphitheater, covered picnic area, museum store, and a citrus grove.
In addition to the main exhibit gallery, the museum offers school field trips, group tours, special musical performances and events, art classes, ballet classes, birthday parties, holiday and summer camps, toddler classes, teen programs, kindergarten readiness workshops, educational outreach programs on school campuses, and other quality programs and services for all ages. Also, facilities are available for private party use, corporate events, and family reunions.
